In 2015 I received a phone solicitation from OVC, a company in partnership with RCI offering a 2 cruise or 1 premium cruises for $3299. According to the agent, the cruises would have a value of $2200 up to $6000 and might include a free upgrade and would also include a "free" resort week.

I explained to the agent that I had all of the weeks/points I needed and that the "fee" week was really of no interest to me. I recently tried to redeem my cruise certificates and realized that a portion of the port fees normally included in the price of a cruise (referred to as cruise line pass thru fees) when purchased directly from the cruise line (at regular non-discounted rates) was added on when I went to redeem my certificate. On one cruise, this extra fee amounted to almost $1000. I had expected to pay the normal tax and port fees....but be aware....this fee is in addition to that amount.

I was unable to find any cruise or cruise combination that came anywhere close to the price I paid for my package. When I contacted OVC (rcicruiser.com) to complain about this discrepancy, I was told that this package was sold as a cruise AND vacation deal and that the "free" week was supposed to more than offset the total price. In order to keep from losing so much money on this supposedly bargain deal, I decided to try to redeem my week resort certificate. There were only a handful of resorts offered that were not in off season or resorts that got poor reviews and these generally had an "upcharge" of $200 to $400 for the week.

Overall I feel that the program was grossly misrepresented and the information initially presented was misleading and untruthful. I am shocked that a company like RCI would be affiliated with a company and promotion that was unethical if not illegal.

I do not have the finances to proceed with any legal action, but after reading the reviews on the internet...hopefully someone will file a class action lawsuit.

Reason of review: Not as described/ advertised.

Monetary Loss: $1000.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Rci Cruise And Resort Vacations Pros: Very friendly sales representatives.

Rci Cruise And Resort Vacations Cons: Very limited choices of resorts for use with certificate, Most resorts listed for use with certificate got poor reviews, Most resorts listed for use with certificate were off season, Add on additional port fees not described initially, Overall misrepresentation of the cruise package.

Location: Indiana, United States
